Pistol Skills Class: Working Through Malfunctions

Pistol Skills Class: Working Through Malfunctions

We often hear about handgun malfunctions in self defense situations that only allowed the defender to fire one shot. We believe the number one reason the gun malfunctions during these situations is stress causing the person to operate their handgun without proper techniques. Most shooters do not train at the range like in real world scenarios where they may be moving or engaging multiple targets. Knowing the difference between a Type 1, 2, or 3 Malfunction and the most efficient way to clear it can have significant consequences in a self defense situation. The Working Through Malfunctions class dives into immediately knowing which type of malfunction the shooter is experiencing and how to clear that malfunction. We have training aides that simulate all types of malfunctions in live fire, so students have the opportunity to work through each malfunction type on the live fire range.

Another common issue is needing to use either your strong or weak hand in a self defense situation. Either of our hands or arms may be hurt or incapacitated in some way. The defender may be carrying a child or helping another person move with one of their arms. Some shooting positions from cover may require you to shoot with just one hand and while shooting in low light one handed shooting is needed when using a stand alone flashlight. While most shooters won’t train to be as good with 1 hand as shooting with both hands, a well-rounded shooter should be able to operate their gun with just their strong or weak hand. We go over the proper way to shoot both strong and weak handed and allow students to practice those skills in live fire.
